What To Expect At Your First Chiropractic Visit in Newtown, PA

At Scardino Family Chiropractic in Newtown, PA our examinations procedures are geared toward detection and correction of the "Vertebral Subluxation", The procedures we use are therefore specifically selected for your spine and nervous system health. There are a couple of things that you should expect when you have a first visit at our clinic.

Chiropractic Consultation

Our office has been especially recognized in many patient testimonials for our initial visit interview.  On your exam and consultation visit at Scardino Family Chiropractic , Dr. Gary Scardino will start by explaining to you the procedures and programs offered and how the main goal of our practice is to restore you to your best level of health. Our motto is "Getting Healthy Heals" and the first visit will help to measure where you are in your health journey.  Next, Dr. Scardino will ask you a series of questions and give you the opportunity to describe your issue and your history of traumas and injuries that got you to where you are now. This information will assist in creating a very specific program designed just for you.

The Examination

Our examination consists of a thorough spinal and nervous system exam which includes "Palpation". Palpation essentially is checking your spine by hand. With this exam the doctor can feel areas of your spine that may be involved with subluxations problems. Spinal position, curvatures and muscle tone can also be examined as it relates to possible spinal subluxations. Your examination may also include some specialized equipment designed to better access your spine and nervous system. This examination could involve several components.

The first part of this examination process may involve a Surface Electromyography test, known as SEMG. This will measure electrical currents in the spinal musculature checking from one level of the spine to another, as well as from one side of the spine to the other. This examination may be performed on the surface of your spinal area to evaluate surface electrical impulses and measure them along your spine. It is pain free and very gentle. This helps measure the effect of subluxation on the motor nerve system and the affect subluxations may be having on your muscles. This test will alert us to imbalances and spasms in the muscles as they are being affected by the nervous system. From this we can see how subluxation may be affecting all other functions of your nervous system, from pain to organ function.

Standing Posture Test

Next we will do a standing posture test to check for curvature of the spine as well as changes in global posture that will help the doctor assess how the body is adapting to subluxations in your spine that may be causing you pain and organ dysfunction.

Report of Findings

It is important to note that this examination helps scientifically understand the subluxation processes going on in your spine. It also gives us a baseline for future tests so we can accurately measure your progress to see how your spine is correcting and your nervous system is functioning. Using these examination procedures is much more accurate than just depending on "how you feel" on any given day.

With this important information we can make a more accurate determination of the type of adjustments your spine needs as well as the ongoing frequency of your care.

You will be scheduled for your Report of Findings within a few days of your initial visit. This visit is your most important visit. It is at your Report of Findings that we will give you a care plan and go over any special instructions you will need to obtain the best and fastest possible results. We have set aside specific times for these visits so as not to interfere with regular patient care hours. Our staff will schedule your Report of Findings with you after your first visit.
